To All of the Dads and Father Figures Out There: Happy Father’s Day!

Fatherhood is about unconditional love, sacrifice, strength, and dependability.

The Hilton Garden Inn Southfield Team would like to wish all of the Dad’s out there a very happy Father’s Day! We also would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful Father’s and Father Figures that have passed on as well.

We have done a a little research and discovered how and when Father’s Day was established:
  • Father’s Day was founded in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, born in Arkansas from Spokane, who was also the driving force behind its establishment. Its first celebration was in Spokane Washington on June 19, 1910. Her father, the CivIl War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who reared his six children. After hearing a sermon about  Mother’s Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father’s birthday, the pastors hadn’t enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

How interesting!

Sandy Boyagian is our Director of Sales and Marketing. Her father has passed on but, she thinks of him everyday. She remembers all of the great moments they shared together and is grateful to have had a great dad! “I wear my fathers wedding band everyday to honor him and keep his memory alive. My mother’s wedding band is on the other hand”.

Jana Urban our Sales and Marketing Manager considers her dad her best friend. “He is a great man. Always there for his family and a wonderful person. I am very aware that I am a lucky daughter and thank God everyday that he is in my life. I love you Dad”.

Stephanie Knutson our Finance Manager is very close with her father. She thanks him for always being by her side and for being a wonderful man!

Javon Finklea our Food and Beverage Manager “I have the best Pops in the world. So, get ready for steaks and BBQ at Dad’s house!”

“Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad.” — Anne Geddes
